Author and speaker, Jim Rohn, is credited with saying, "Each of us is the sum total of the five people with whom we spend the most time."

If you're in sales, this could mean that from a work perspective, you are the sum total of your boss, your Sales Manager, your favorite client, your admin and perhaps your best friend in the sales department. You might even believe that all of these people are on your team, which is technically correct. 

But, here’s a reality check: Your sales manager is not responsible for your success. Your sales manager may have a vested interest in you doing well. She may even want you to be successful, but she is not responsible for your numbers and is even less invested in your career. But don't hate your boss for this.

In truth, you are responsible for your own sales success. This has always been the case. You may be lucky enough to have the best boss in the world, but you still need to bring skill and hard work to the party. 

So if the five people in your inner circle aren't contributing to you in meaningful ways, take a cue from Jim Rohn and give yourself an upgrade. Here's how to meet more people (video below).
